Founded in 2004 as Michael P. Berry Consulting and Investments, Bunker Hill Hospitality Consulting is a Boston-based, boutique consulting and investment firm specializing in the hospitality industry for both commercial and non-commercial clients. Mike has more than 43 years of management experience, including leadership roles with The Cheesecake Factory, where he served as President and COO; Barnes & Noble Booksellers, where he was also President; and The Walt Disney Company, where he served as Senior Vice President of Operations for The Disneyland Resort.

He brings a strong background in the service industry and is a nationally recognized speaker on the subject of Delivering Over-the-Top Customer Service, and other service-related topics. His passion for emphasizing service to help companies differentiate themselves from the mainstream and their competitors has been highly effective in improving overall performance.

Mike won national recognition and virtually every industry award as the Director of Auxiliary and Dining Services at Harvard University. Affectionately known as the “Mealtime Messiah” by the students of Harvard and Radcliffe, Mike was responsible for many facets of student life at Harvard and Radcliffe Colleges, as well as Harvard University’s thirteen graduate schools.

He was recognized for his achievements by IFMA with the Silver Plate in 1996, the highest award in the restaurant industry, as well as Restaurant and Institutions magazine’s prestigious Ivy Award for the Best Non-Commercial Foodservice in the United States. He also was honored by Food Management magazine with its Visionary Award. Prior to working at Harvard University, Mike worked for eleven years at the University of California at Irvine and UCLA, where he was also a student favorite running foodservice operations.

Mike holds a B.A. magna cum laude from the University of New Hampshire (’71), and completed a Certificate Program in Transformational Leadership in conjunction with the Harvard Business School during his employment with the university. He is an avid traveler, reader, and enjoys dining out at restaurants around the world. Mike is also a member of the Board of Directors of Corinthian Colleges, Inc. a Trustee of the University of New Hampshire Foundation, as well as member of Old South Church in Boston. He shares his life with his partner of nine years Gerardo Ramirez.

With a passion for giving back to the community and helping the less fortunate realize their potential, Bunker Hill established its investment arm. We specialize in making micro loans at low or no interest rates to organizations and people who provide housing and food for low-income families, as well as start-up support for several institutions which provide education and jobs in rural areas.

  • Paid off the mortgage on a property for a private liberal arts college
  • Funded a major scholarship at a public university
  • Investment in a start-up company publishing books with part of their proceeds going to charities
